154: Pedigree Matters

I talked last time about Phil, my beans’ pup, who has gone away for a month … just as I was getting used to him.

This week, a female pup arrived.   Of course I’ve met her before.  She, along with her family, come to eat from our fridge and larder.

In fact, I have stayed with them on a couple of occasions when my beans have been away.

The problem with this visit is that she brought along ….. (suspenseful music should play here) …another dog.  This one is called Popcorn and is not a real, class dog like myself.  She is what they call a Cockapoo - a kind of hybrid dog with a mixed bloodline.

I believe such dogs are quite popular these days.  Standards are slipping - as they are elsewhere ,of course.   People wear jeans all the time, they begin sentences with. “So, …” , they use words that should not be uttered in polite company.  I could go on - and often I do - when talking to friends in the park.

What people … and dogs … need is pedigree - like wot I have got.  I never wear jeans - never would, never will.

So, I don’t talk to Popcorn.  I stand aloof, show disdain, act as a role model.   Of course she looks up to me.  I’m the kind of dog she could aspire to be - if only she had the pedigree.

But I have to remind her all the time that we are a class apart - and ever will be so.
