189: Adventure Time

Things seem to have been happening to me recently …. But now I think I have capped the lot.

Last night, TOWTSH took me for a walk at about 9:45 pm (as he usually does. (I’ve got him well trained.)

However, he failed to connect my lead to my collar properly.  (A simple task I know, but he is not the most competent of people.)

So, afer about 40 yards, I tugged suddenly and lo, I was free.

I ran as fast as I can (I told you I could run) which is a lot faster than TOWTSH and made a beeline (can a dog make a beeline)  for Dave and Mo’s garden at the end of the road. (I’ve been in there before and it has all sorts of strange smells (even when Dave isn’t around).

TOWTSH came after me (quite slowly), calling my name and shining his little torch (£1.65 from C-houses) but I went out of the second gate (big garden!) as he was coming in the first.

And I was off.

But where to go?  Where could I find food.

Aaah. I hear you say, “The bus stop”.

So off I went …but it was rather noisy at the bus stop so I set off for a wander.   I figured if I can cross Street Lane (the heavily trafficked road) safely, what other dangers could I not surmount.

Since I’ve been back, I’ve heard that half the street was out searching and worrying.  One of them (Lisa) saw me (on Devonshire Avenue) and got within a few yards before I made my escape.  At midnight the search was called off (am I only worth two hours) the hope being that I would turn up or someone would corral me and call home.

This morning, the search resumed by car, by bike and on foot.

Bizarrely, Jim (of Jim and Sue fame) had decided to go for a run (for the first time in a year). Whilst running he spotted a dog (me!) cowering (his word, not mine) behind some railings .

“That’’s Gina”, he said (factually correct but unimaginative) to his running mate (shades of US elections, there) who he had just been telling his mate of my missingness.  They managed to collar me (I was too ccld and tired to run away), called TOWTSH and I was soon, gladly, back in the land of warmth and food.  In fact it was Sue (of Sue and Jim fame) who gave me a banana she had hoped to entice me with should she have spotted me as she and Sarah walked the area of my previous sighting.

I am not proud of running away and worrying my beans but I am immensely proud of :

  • Safely crossing the ring road;

  • Fighting off the wild beasts that are around in Leeds at night;

  • Evading recapture for 12 hours;

  • Hiding from the ghosts ands ghouls that have been around lately;

  • Diverting two burglars from their attempts to steal jewels or other treasures from a house on Talbot Road

  • Defeating the Beast of Bideford (I presume you’ve heard the story and thought it was a myth).

Anyway, I’m glad to be home - adventures are very tiring and make you hungry.

One last thing ….. a great big thankyou to all who helped search for me - or sent messages of support to my beans - I know they appreciated both.
